Our Process

From the first call to the final compaction, our proven step-by-step process ensures every paving project is completed with precision, efficiency, and lasting quality.

1. Utility Staking

Before excavation begins, we contact Ontario One Call to locate and mark all public underground utilities (gas, hydro, cable, etc.). This prevents costly or dangerous hits during digging. Note: private utility locates are not included unless arranged separately.

2. Crew & Equipment Arrival

Our skilled crew arrives with all necessary paving machinery, safely unloading and staging it with care and respect for your property and neighbourhood. We come prepared to get to work immediately.

3. Work Area Setup

We measure the work area according to your contract and set precise string lines around the perimeter. This ensures the paving follows exact dimensions and stays within the proper boundaries.

4. Excavation

We clear weeds and vegetation by hand or skid-steer to ensure nothing grows through the new pavement. For deeper digs, we use larger excavation equipment to remove soil and prepare the subgrade to the required depth.

5. Base Prep, Grading & Drainage

We build a solid foundation using compacted aggregate and shape it to ensure proper drainage. Laser transits and grading machines help us fine-tune elevations, eliminate low spots, and direct water away from structures.

6. Base Compaction

Using a heavy-duty 3-ton vibratory roller (equivalent to 7.5 tons of compaction force), we compact the base to industry standards. A strong base means the asphalt stays smooth, level, and crack-free over time.

7. Final Grading

Before paving, we double-check slope, grade, and drainage, fine-tuning with hand tools and compacting again where needed. This step locks in the base's shape and ensures long-term performance.

8. Asphalt Installation

We lay hot mix asphalt (typically MTO-approved HL3) with a paving machine for even thickness and a smooth surface. Straight edges are formed using guides, and adhesive is applied at joints to bond new asphalt to existing surfaces.

9. Asphalt Compaction

Once at optimal temperature, we compact the asphalt using a series of rollers and plate tampers. This seals the surface, smooths out imperfections, and ensures a tight, durable finish with proper drainage.

10. Clean-Up & Protection

We hand-finish the edges, clean the site, sweep surrounding areas, and install caution tape or barriers to protect the fresh pavement while it cures. In most cases, the surface is ready for traffic after a couple of days.
